Notes | Born into a noble family in Northern Hungary, he was a prominent Hungarian Renaissance poet, politician, and diplomat. He participated in the Long Turkish War, served as secretary to Transylvanian prince István Bocskai (1605), and contributed to the 1606 Transylvanian-Habsburg and Habsburg-Ottoman peace treaties. Joining the Habsburgs in 1608, he traveled to Constantinople with envoy Adam von Herberstein. Aligning with Gábor Bethlen in 1619, he negotiated as Bethlen's envoy at the Porte but retired to his Nógrád estates in 1621. His legacy includes extensive writings and diplomatic correspondence. |
